‘Trauma-informed practice’ draws increasing attention amongst teachers and other educators. What exactly is it, and how do you implement it? These are the questions answered by this online course, released in 2022 by Policy Hub Scotland.

The course features interviews with teachers, headteachers, authors and academics, as well as other members of school communities, resulting in a vibrant, pragmatic picture of trauma informed practice in school classrooms and beyond. Educational campaigner David Cameron serves as the Course Coordinator, tying together all the components with his signature passion for improving children’s lives.

Suzanne’s contribution to the course includes commentary on topics including trauma, ACEs, attachment, regulation and co-regulation, and the value of relationships. She points out that underpinning all of these is our innate, human need for connection. Her contribution to the course is offered in her usual engaging style, ensuring that participants leave feeling confident about their understanding of biology and the stress system.

The course contains 14 video interviews, divided into 4 sessions. Completing it yields 7 hours of CPD accreditation. Reviewers have commented enthusiastically on the real-life examples, the range of suggestions offer for responding to behaviour, and the reassurance the course offers about the power of focusing on relationships.
